Finished the custom suction-cup phone mount (made from a hacked-up cheapo Walmart phone mount and a case for this phone) and got it attached to the glass in front of the speedometer. Used it during my commute to school and it worked fantastically; a digital number is so much easier to comprehend at a glance then a dial is.

Also it's loads of fun watching the speed (nested inside the tach) chase the revs up and down.

I'm leaving media stuff up to my Lumia 925 and dedicating the LG L9 to being a speedometer. The L9s sound card is utter shit; super exaggerated bass drum, yet I get hardly any bass guitar, tons of vocals, no upper-mids, and high hats make my ears bleed. No amount of equalizer either with apps on the phone or my car's amp could make it listenable, so I went back to my delicious-sounding Nokia.

Video of it in operation and a 0-60 coming tomorrow.

I should do that! The speedo on my car is out and I got creative with some hard drive magnets, hot glue, and my dads Droid 4. Unfortunately the hot glue is not strong enough for the sheet power of neodymium magnets so it always comes off.

And the app has an HUD function so I put one by the windshield!

In Wisconsin, that wouldn't be legal.

Try putting the razor blade (or any thin piece of metal) on the inside of the battery door

use JB Weld to attach a magnet to the case. It is a blast to watch JB Weld on a magnet!

The factory speedo has to work and be visible here.

So an aftermarket dash is entirely out of the question in Wisconsin?

I may have misworded my response. The vehicle speedometer here has to display vehicle speed using a mechanical (cable) or electronic (vehicle speed sensor) signal generated by the car.

A vehicle speed signal generated by GPS triangulation is not legal for use as a speedometer.

This is getting speed straight from the OBD2 port, thus from the vehicle speed sensor. That's why I was confused; no GPS is being used here.

Huh.

I bet the cop would still bitch at you for it, though. Cops gonna cop.
